Research shows PCMH model improves cancer screening rate, narrows disparities

A Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan study, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, showed that the PCMH care model is associated with an increased rate of cancer screenings for colon, breast and cervical cancer.  It also showed that the disparity in cancer screening rates among patients in high and low socioeconomic groups significantly narrowed in practices where the PCMH model was fully implemented.

Michael Paustian, PhD, MS, co-author of the study and manager in the Clincial Epidemiology and Biostatistics department at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, was interviewed in the Transforming Healthcare blog.  This is the blog of Oliver Wyman’s Health and Life Sciences Practice.
