MHA Keystone Center
The Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) launched the MHA Keystone Center for Patient Safety & Quality in March 2003 to unite Michigan hospitals in patient safety best practices and to voluntarily improve care delivered at the bedside and beyond.
The initiative has been funded by Michigan hospitals, state and federal grants and an initial $6 million donation from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Nearly every Michigan hospital has participated in at least one of the center's pioneering patient safety collaborations. Their efforts have created new quality standards — reducing hospital-associated infections and risk in surgical, obstetrical and emergency department settings across the state. Through their efforts, Michigan intensive care units (ICU) are now among the safest in the nation.
In 2009, the Michigan Blues expanded its partnership with the MHA Keystone Center through an additional $6 million, five-year investment. The funding is enabling MHA Keystone Center to launch new collaboratives and expand its focus and scope.
This statewide collaboration among hospitals is improving health care for all Michigan citizens. Learn more about the MHA Keystone Center and its achievements at mhakeystonecenter.org.
