Hitinder S. Gurm, M.D.

Dr. Hitinder S. Gurm is an assistant professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Health System, director of Inpatient Services for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and director of Carotid Interventions in Cardiovascular Medicine. He is also the project director of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Registry (BMC2-PCI). Gurm is a graduate of Christian Medical College in India. He subsequently trained in the United Kingdom and was elected to the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. He joined the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and completed a residency in internal medicine followed by a year as chief resident where he also completed his fellowship in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. Gurm then joined the cardiology division of the University of Michigan. His clinical interests include cardio-vascular interventions with special interest in carotid and below knee interventions. His research interests include carotid interventions, pharmacotherapy of PCI, quality improvement and outcomes assessment focused on acute coronary syndromes and PCI, and development of novel devices for endovascular interventions.

Andrea G. Jensen, M.A., M.S.

Andrea G. Jensen is the project manager for the BMC2-PCI/PVI. She was previously the site head for Research Quality Assurance at Pfizer Global Research and Development, in Ann Arbor. Ms. Jensen has many years of management experience in health care and in public health. She has a Master of Arts degree in Analytic Philosophy and a Master of Science degree in Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health from the University of Iowa.

About the Coordinating Center

The University of Michigan Health System serves as the Coordinating Center and is responsible for collecting and analyzing comprehensive clinical data from the participating hospitals. It uses these analyses to examine practice patterns, generate new knowledge linking processes of care to patient outcomes, and identify best practices and opportunities for quality and efficiency improvement. The Center further supports participants in establishing quality improvement goals and assists them in implementing best practices.
