Samuel M. Silver, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Silver currently serves as the director of MiBOQI. He is a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. He also serves as a Cancer Center member, director of the Cancer Center Network and assistant dean for Research at the University of Michigan Health System. His specialty is bone marrow transplantation and hematology/oncology. His clinical interests include; malignant hematology, bleeding disorders, platelet dysfunction, myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic disorders and porphyria. Dr. Silver's research interests are malignant hematology and the quality of oncology care. He is certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology.


Ann Mehringer, M.S.

Ann Mehringer, M.S.

Ann Mehringer is the administrative director for MiBOQI. Ann received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Kalamazoo College, and then returned to Ann Arbor and took a research position with the University of Michigan. While at the university, she earned her Master of Science degree in Clinical Trial Design and Statistical Analysis.

About the Coordinating Center

The University of Michigan serves as the Coordinating Center and is responsible for collecting and analyzing comprehensive clinical data from the participating hospitals. It uses these analyses to examine practice patterns, to generate new knowledge linking processes of care to outcomes, and to identify best practices and opportunities for quality and efficiency improvement. The center further supports participants in establishing quality improvement goals and assists them in implementing best practices.
